Pranayama - Vital Life Force
The word pranayama comes from two Sanskrit terms: prana and ayama. Prana is the vital life force energy that flows through the body, and the word “ayama,” means “to expand,” or “draw out.” So with pranayama, we are using our breath to expand our life-force energy. Pranayama is the fourth limb in The Yoga Sutras, and it has many benefits. There is growing scientific research documenting the practice of pranayama on a regular basis, including: reduction of feelings of stress and overwhelm, increased energy levels, lower/stabalize blood pressure, reduction of anxiety and depression.
There are many pranayama techniques, some are designed to calm and relax the body and mind, some are designed to invigorate and energize the body and mind. Everyone can practice pranayama, you can practice it anywhere, it’s free, and such a powerful tool that contributes to overall wellness. I look forward to practicing with you soon!
